Michael McPhail, FCAS, MAAA

Michael is the founder and owner of A Casual Fellow's Exam Seminars.  He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (travel time less than 3 years) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Mathematics.  

He currently works in loss reserving.  His past work experience includes personal lines auto pricing and predictive modeling. He has presented on price optimization at CAS and regional affiliate meetings and has published a paper with the CAS on price elasticity of demand.  In addition to his experience as a practicing actuary, he recently taught and developed an Interest Theory course at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Michael shares instructor duties with Scott Merkord for Exam 6-US and is the sole Casual Fellow instructor for Exam 7 (using sole "Casual Fellow" instructor here because Michael currently offers a joint online seminar for Exam 7 with Steve Roll from Rising Fellow).  Michael can be contacted at michael@casualfellow.com.


Scott Merkord, FCAS, MAAA

Scott is the latest addition to Casual Fellow.  He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (travel time of 3 years) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.  He graduated with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Mathematics.  

Scott currently works in economic capital modeling.  His past work experience includes personal lines pricing and modeling. He also previously led the recruiting, training, and actuarial exam program for candidates at his workplace.  In addition to his experience as a practicing actuary, Scott has volunteered with the CAS through Regional Affiliates, University Liaisons, and the Exam Committee.
