Exam 6-US

March 2, 2021

Updated the errata sheet with two RBC errata.

February 24, 2021

Updated errata sheet with minor error from Ch. 26 of Odomirok.

-Michael

February 8, 2021

All updates to the study guide and review videos have been made to reflect the new papers and/or revisions to existing papers. Please use the versions of each outline that are on the online course as of today.

The only remaining required updates are the problem videos. For nearly every paper, a problem video already exists based on pen and paper exams. We plan to transition all calculation based problem videos to Excel by the end of March. The essay based problem videos will remain pen and paper for now since the difference between Excel and pen/paper is immaterial.

I say "nearly every paper" because some problem videos need to be completely reworked due to syllabus changes (for example, Schedule F and taxation). These will be the first ones transitioned.

January 14, 2021

I wanted to provide a quick update on the status of the Exam 6 study materials. The study guide and online videos have been updated for the Spring 2021 sitting except for the following papers:

  • CFR Ch. 14, 19, 22, 26 (study guide)
  • CFR Ch. 10, 14, 15, 19, 22, 24, 25, 30 (online videos)
  • Cedar

Note that the CFR chapter above were part of the Odomirok update. Cedar is a new paper. All updates are expected to be loaded to the online courses by mid February.

Thanks for your patience! We were not able to access the new papers from the CAS until mid December. We are working as fast as we can to everything up to date!

December 4, 2020

I wanted to give a quick update on the Spring 2021 sitting. Given the delay in the testing window for the Fall 2020 exams, we will not be releasing the Exam 6U material in December. As of now, we are aiming for a mid-January release. Note that all problems (both mathematical and essay) and practice exams will be transitioned to Excel for the Spring 2021 sitting.

As you might already know, the CAS announced syllabus changes for Exam 6U a few months ago, including new papers and an update to the Odomirok text (almost of which has yet to be made available). Although we are aiming for a mid-January release, I don't expect the new material to be ready at that time given that we can't access it. I expect to use some sort of phased approach of releasing material in January and February.

I also want to note that the Problem Videos will not be updated to reflect the CBT environment by the mid-January release. Although they will be available at release, they will still be based on "pen and paper solutions." we plan to update them throughout the Spring sitting using Excel solutions.

More to come.

At the end of the RMAD - Regulatory Guidance slide within the "COPFLR Relevant Comments Video (around the 9:15 mark)," we stated that a RMAD does not exist.  We should have said that an RMAD does exist.  The video has been revised and reposted,  A new audio file for that video has been posted as well.

October 30, 2019

Now that the fall 2019 exam is over, it's time to start thinking about the spring 2020 exam!

In addition to the study guide, we will be offering an online seminar for the spring 2020 sitting!  Seminar details along with sample videos can be found on the Seminars page of the website.  In addition to the online seminar, we will continue to offer the study guide as a separate product.

The spring 2020 study guide and online seminar will be available once fall exam results are released in mid-December.  For those who want to start studying immediately, the spring 2020 study guide can be purchased now and immediate access will be given to the fall 2019 study guide.  Once the updated study guide is released in December, you will be automatically transitioned to the updated guide.

Added a practice exam errata sheet to account for an excel error on PE #1 Q5. Please see practice exam errata sheet posted within the course.

I uploaded an updated version of PE #1.

November 18, 2020

Updated errata for Patrik based on an email that came through in the past week. This will probably be the final errata update for the sitting given that the testing window begins tomorrow. I updated the Patrik videos as well to address the errata.

I also just finished wrapping up the conversion of all original practice problems to Excel and posted them to the course this evening. I wish I could have posted them sooner so that they would have been more useful for the Fall 2020 sitting. Unfortunately, I had not planned for the unexpected change from the CAS and didn't have the bandwidth to move any quicker.

Good luck on the exam!

September 28, 2020

Excel-based practice exams have been uploaded to the online courses.

August 17, 2020

Posted the Fall 2020 errata with two minor errata to the online courses.

-Michael

July 22, 2020

I corrected an error on the "Comparing the Methods" tab of the Venter Exhibits workbook posted in the "Extras" section of the online course. The chain-ladder fitted values were being calculated by applying incremental LDFs to the prior cumulative fitted values by mistake. They should have been applied to the prior cumulative actual losses.

-Michael

March 27, 2020

I uploaded a new version of the Teng/Perkins video.  I revised the "Feldblum Enhancement" discussion on the second to last slide to make it clear what we want to subtract from the CPDLD and PDLD ratios.

This goes along with the clarification I added to the study guide errata.

March 22, 2020

Errata updated.

-Michael

March 8, 2020

Updated the errata with a number of clarifications.  Also, I revised the Venter Factors problem video to update the past exam problem on the correlation test with new t-statistics (based on the errata released by the CAS in early February).

-Michael

February 11, 2020

I uploaded revised versions of the Venter Factors and Shapland review videos.  For Venter Factors, the updates were in response to the errata I posted on February 9 regarding the Cape Cod model and the correlation test.  For Shapland, I revised the discussion on the "degree of freedom/scaled pearson residuals" slide and the "process variance in the future incremental slide."  Lastly, I re-posted the errata sheet with one additional sentence to expand upon the Cape Cod model errata for Venter Factors.

-Michael

February 9, 2020

The errata sheet for 2020 has been posted with a few errata (including the Venter Factors errata posted by the CAS in early February).

-Michael

January 30, 2020

I re-posted the Venter Factors exhibit to the online courses to show the full iteration and adjustments needed to match Venter's numbers shown on page 823 of the text.
